The Falcon 9 rocket was launched by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which is a space technology company in 2015. The aim of launching this rocket was to send the Deep Space Climate Observatory or DSCOVR into space. DSCOVR is a sort of weather observation satellite. Unfortunately, the rocket had less fuel and couldn’t make it back to the Earth and it stayed in space to orbit around the Earth.
First uncontrolled rocket collision with the Moon
Astronomer Jonathan McDowell in a talk with BBC said that this collision is going to be “the first known uncontrolled rocket collision with the Moon. He also stated that the effects of the collision will not be major, rather it will have minor effects. The rocket is likely to crash into the Moon on March 4. As for now, the rocket is travelling at approximately 5,000 miles/hour. This Falcon 9 is the second stage rocket, the first stage rocket was successful with its mission. The mission was accomplished seven years back. McDowell on the incident wrote that SpaceX did not do anything bad. It is an old and normal practice to abandon the stuff in deep orbit. The space agencies are not responsible for leaving stuff out beyond the Moon. Also, he said that there might be 50 or more huge objects that must have totally gone out of the track, over the decades. This is just not the first case ever, but no one noticed the event before. Hence, this turned out be the first case that has been now confirmed. Reports affirm NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance and ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 are the two satellites that might witness and view this event. The news might have caught everyone’s attention. However, the name of the man whose company is behind the rocket launch has not surprised many out there.
