About the app
The Miner Safety and Health app helps miners to get access to essential health information. There are five main sections in the app. They assist the miners with knowledge about health, safety, miners’ rights, contacting MSHA, and learning about MSHA. The app will send notifications to its users about any mining accidents and ways to prevent those. Chris Williamson, the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health, said, “Miners nationwide can now access important safety and health and miners’ rights information in the palm of their hands.”
there Features
The app has several other features. It includes a comprehensive guide to filing a discrimination complaint or information about Part 90 transfer rights, especially for coal miners who are suffering from pneumoconiosis like black lung disease. It also lets the miners report hazards and accidents with the click of a few buttons. Until now, miners received health and safety information from different sources like their unions, mine’s safety office or managers, miners’ representatives, training programs, industry stakeholder groups, MSHA inspectors, etc. Although those remain rich sources for miners, the app would allow miners to research or access information directly. Williamson added, “This new, innovative tool is another technical and educational resource to empower miners and help them play active roles in mine safety and health; even so, the Mine Act is clear that mine operators have the primary responsibility to maintain safe and healthy working conditions and provide regular and thorough training to miners.” You may find this article useful: SafeTrek: Women’s safety app for women on the go
