Google had first introduced the app’s job-search feature as a spot in Google Pay. Google said in its recent blog post, “In India, employers like Zomato and Dunzo have found the Jobs matching algorithm effective in finding candidates with the required skills, experience and location preferences, with over 2 million verified jobs posted on the platform.” Notably, the further expansion has come at a point when unemployment rates are reaching an all-time high in India due to the on-going pandemic. Therefore, it has definitely been a welcome move for the Indian youth who have been struggling to find jobs. Furthermore, while the Jobs spot was largely restricted to entry-level jobs, Google will be further expanding the job range as well with the Kormo Jobs app.

It had also launched an AI-enabled jobs’ search engine in the United States back in June 2017.Google had also launched a similar feature in India in 2018. Notably, it had collaborated with a range of leading job portals like Freshersworld, Aasaanjobs, IBM Talent Management Solutions, Headhonchos, Quezx, LinkedIn, and Shine to bring job listings to its search results in India. With Kormo app in India, it will be competing with local job search portals including TimesJobs, Shine and Naukri.com. Furthermore, it will also be hoping to take on it major competitor in the space, Microsoft owned LinkedIn. The leading social media site for professionals, LinkedIn has often found itself struggling when it comes to emerging markets like India. Therefore, Google does seem to have a decent chance at taking on by leveraging on its larger user base in the country. Talking of the functions, similar to its competitors, Kormo Jobs asks you to create a profile and explore related jobs and directly apply for the relevant ones. The job search portals and applications such as LinkedIn have become a hub for job-seekers and recruiters to connect in the digital world. Furthermore, Kormo Jobs will reportedly also allow users to learn new skills and upgrade their profile.
