The tech giant revealed that its infrastructure had successfully absorbed a massive 2.5Tbps DDoS in September 2017, the highest-bandwidth attack reported to date. Google stops the biggest cyber-attack which was considered to be a result of a six-month campaign that comprised several different methods of attacks. It is believed that the attack came from China, having originated from within the network of four Chinese internet service providers (ASNs 4134, 4837, 58453, and 9394). The attacker took the support of several different networks to take off 167 Mbps (millions of packets per second) to 180,000 exposed CLDAP, DNS, and SMTP servers, which had then sent large responses to Google. Google clarified that the supposed attack validates the volumes a well-equipped attacker can achieve. This attack is four times larger than the record-breaking 623 Gbps attack from the Mirai botnet that occurred in 2016. They do so by spreading malicious software through emails, websites, and social media.
