Millions of consumers will certainly buy these devices as the price they offer is much lower than what Apple has set for its iPad. But is the new Kindle Fire HD worth the entire hullabaloo? We have Aakash tab for just $35! Let’s take the example of mobile phones. In India and China, there are billions of people who use mobile phones owing to the cheap cost and wide availability. As per a report by Cisco, it is estimated that by the end of this year, there will be more mobile-connected devices than number of people on the earth. Also by 2016, it is speculated that there will be over 10 billion mobile-connected devices or 1.4 mobile devices per capita. Mobile phones have connected everyone all over the world including villages in most remote parts of the world. The same is thought of Internet-enabled tablets, which is hoped to take connectivity to the next level. Billions in the world will then get access to the same online learning tools, engage in discussion groups, and participate more equally in the global economy if they get cheaper tabs. There are many in the US, who have already revolutionized the market. Occasionally it is seen that when prices of iPads drop, iPad are everywhere, same as what happens with iPhone and Android devices. India has already revolutionized the market of tabs and launched a product known as the Aakash tablet, which is hoped to change the education process on a whole. The first model of Aaksah tab came out in Oct. 2011, priced at just $35! However, Kapil Sibal has also announced the launch of a newer version called Aakash 2, slated for October release. Sibal announced that the latest version will have a four-point, multi-touch projective capacitive display and a Cortex A8 – 1 Ghz processor. It will run on the latest version of Android, provide Wi-Fi and cell phone connectivity, and will be offered in India for just $63. The government has also offered a version of this for $40 that it plans to subsidize for schools. Cheap, yet innovative tabs are a necessity that all countries need to embark on for a revolution. But what they need to understand is that there is a lot bigger market, which is at the bottom of the pyramid, hoping and waiting for a cheaper tab that they can easily afford!
