Jio Glass vs Google Glass

Jio Glass vs Snapchat Spectacles 3 vs Microsoft HoloLens

Reliance’s entry into the smart glass space comes as COVID-19 forces adoption of remote workspaces and virtual classrooms. While earlier iterations of smart glasses like Google Glass, SnapChat’s Spectacles and Microsoft’s HoloLens all failed to take-off, Jio Glass could be timed just right for the market. The ‘mixed reality’ headset by Reliance has entered the tech space with the promise of enabling holographic videoconferencing, 3D-presentations, and much more. Reliance has made its way in the smart glass space after a slanderous failure of Google Glass, SnapChat’s Spectacles and Microsoft’s HoloLens. The Snap Spectacles failed to make a mark for itself after its failure. The smart glasses by Snapchat is not suited for people with eye power as Snap doesn’t offer prescription spectacles. Unlike the latest Jio Glass, which has one camera in the middle, the Snapchat Spectacles wears two attached HD cameras along with a bundled 3D viewer (AKA Google Cardboard).  These smart specs were designed to be worn on the go. The HoloLens 2, on the other hand, is and designed to be a fully-fledged headset, with 2K resolution, and is super heavy. The main difference bwteenJio Glass, Snapchat Spectacles 3 and Microsoft HoloLens is the price. While the estimated price of Jio Glass is around INR 14,000, Snap Spectacles 3 was launched in India at a price point of around INR 30,000. Microsoft HoloLens retails at a sky-high price of INR 2,63,000. The question now is, whether Reliance Jio Glass will be able to meet the changing expectations of the “New Normal.” Will it be able to secure its position as the “best-in-class” of mixed reality services?
