The technology and consulting firm, IBM stated that its latest innovation is designed to assist clients to safely and quickly filter huge amounts of data, which aims to meet the demands of retail and other clients in the age of “Big Data.” zEnterprise EC12 mainframe server marks to be the fastest chip in the work, which will run at 5.5 GHz. Its processing speed is 25 percent faster than its predecessors. The mainframe models are usually used by corporate clients from banks to chain stores. IBM says this new model could be used by retailers to handle online transactions and examine clients’ buying habits and then use the information to create a “more customized shopping experience,” such as a custom coupon issued during a transaction. Doug Brown, Vice President of Marketing, IBM said, “Whether its retail or whether its transportation, making reservations, whatever it is, the system has been built really to help clients do those new types of new-age transactions.” IBM is reported to spend more than $1 billion on research and development for the system at 18 sites internationally, with most of it done in Poughkeepsie, which is about 40 miles north of its headquarters in Armonk in Westchester County. zEnterprise EC12 is called to be one of the most secure systems ever that has a tamper-resistant cryptographic co-processor to offer privacy for sensitive transactions. The main focus of IBM has been on its software and services divisions, which has turned in more profit as compared to selling the mainframe computers the firm made decades ago. But also important is the fact that sales of IBM computers did help increase demand for the firm’s services.
