Xiaomi has led the Indian smartphone market charts for three consecutive years straight. But, coincidentally as consumers moved towards budget phones, the popular budget king found itself in the middle of cross-border turmoil. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer suffered a decline in its popularity amidst the rising anti-China sentiments in the nation. Furthermore, a slowing economy and on-going cross border tensions on the India-China border have also paved way for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and indigenous products including “Made In India” mobile phones.
Counterpoint and Canalys Q3 2020 Reports
But, it is also worth noting that Samsung’s taking over the Number 1 spot remains contentious. Two of the leading tech marketing research firms, Counterpoint and Canalys stand divided on the quarter, Q3 2020. Latest Counterpoint report stated that Samsung let the charts witha 24% share of the Indian smartphone market in the July to September quarter. On the other hand, Xiaomi could only manage a 23% share of the World’s second largest smartphone market in the same quarter. Canalys report, however, disagrees with the Counterpoint findings. Canalys reported that Xiaomi had managed to keep its No. 1 position in the Indian market as it commanded 26.1% of the Indian smartphone market share in Q3 2020 while Samsung followed with a 20.4% market share. XIAOMI OR SAMSUNG: BETTER BUDGET PHONES Nevertheless, both Counterpoint and Canalys agreed that the Indian smartphone market witnessed a sharp rebound in the quarter. Notably, Canalys reported a sale of around 50 million handsets in the third quarter of 2020. Counterpoint reported an even larger sum suggesting that over 53 million smartphone units were sold in India in the same period.
Samsung Likely To Emerge World No 1 Mobile Firm in 2020
Samsung has also reclaimed its throne as the World No 1 mobile company in the latest quarter. Notably, rise in smartphone sales in China while the rest of the world still remained under lockdown against COVID-19, Huawei had remained the top smartphone seller in the Q2 2020. Unsurprisingly, as world resumed its economic activities, Samsung went on to claim its No. 1 position in the smartphone market not only in India but also in the World. Latest Counterpoint report recorded a 32% year-over-year rise in the sales of Samsung’s mobile units. Notably, the feat also comes as the firm recorded one of its all-time highest sales figures.
