You could be a victim of your camera roll not showing pictures on Snapchat and wondering how to fix that. Change the app’s settings and grant Snapchat access to utilize the camera. If it doesn’t work either, try reinstalling the application.
Why Are My Snapchat Photos Not Saving to Camera Roll
1. You Have A Weak Internet Connection
Unlike your phones Gallery or photos app, Snapchat requires a stable internet connection to reach the server’s database. If your saved Snapchat photos are not saving to your gallery, or your camera roll isn’t loading in Snapchat, it could be your internet connection.
2. Snapchat Servers Are Down
If your service and WiFi connection on your phone is otherwise working fine, then it may just be Snapchat’s servers. Although this is rare for Snapchat, don’t be frustrated, as this can happen for several reasons. They could be performing scheduled maintenance, their servers could be getting attacked, or it could be something as minor as a power outage. Whatever the case, there is no need to worry, as when the servers inevitably go back up, you should be able to see your camera roll on Snapchat.
3. There’s A Glitch That’s Preventing Them From Showing
With software, a lot could randomly go wrong, and none of it could be your fault. Clearing your cache or reinstalling the app could be a quick fix, both of which we explain how to do below.
How to Fix Snapchat Pictures Not Showing in Gallery
1. Fix Your Internet Connection
Mobile devices can often be unreliable in terms of internet connection. Luckily, there are a few things you can try. If your WiFi is just slow but still working, try these 5 simple steps;
- On your phone, have WiFi on and cellular data off.
- Download a speed test app. We recommend Speedtest by Ookla or Internet Speed Test Speedcheck for iOS, and for Android, we recommend Speed Test Master on the Google play store.
- Test your speeds. Your download speed on mobile should be around 10 Mbps, and the upload speed is not too important.
- Now, turn on Cellular data and turn off your WiFi.
- Repeat step 3. If having WiFi only on giving you better download results, keep only your WiFi on. If your Cellular Data worked better, keep only your cellular data on. Remember, the higher the download speed, the better. Now, open your Snapchat back up and see if you can see your photos again in the camera roll section.
- Turn on airplane mode
- Restart the router your device is connected to
- Turn off airplane mode This does a fresh restart of your entire WiFi system and could resolve any possible kinks in your network.
2. Wait For Snapchat Servers to Resolve
If the Snapchat servers are down, there’s not much else you can do but wait. They could be performing scheduled maintenance, their servers could be getting attacked, or it could be something as minor as a power outage. It shouldn’t be more than just a few hours, so hang tight, and it’ll be back before you know it!
3. Refresh Snapchat App
On Snapchat, you can quickly refresh the application without restarting it. All you need to do is go to the app’s chat section and swipe your finger down from the top. You will see the ghost pop up and feel your phone vibrate if you have your feedback. Snapchat will now be refreshed, new chats will pop up, and your photos could also be back in the camera roll section. You should be able to save pictures now so that you can see them in your gallery
4. Log Out Then Log In
Logging out and back in is another possible fix.
5. Clear Cache
Snapchat memories can take up a lot of storage on your phone, along with the cache, temporary storage of messages and image files stored on your app. The cache helps your app run faster when using it. Clearing the cache will not only free up a little bit of storage, but it could also very well be just enough to fix your problem entirely. Clearing your Snapchat cache will not delete any data from your account. Lens and filters could temporarily disappear, but all you need to do is restart the app, and they should appear right back where they were. Doing this also helps remove any corrupted files stored in your cache, which can fix many issues. Here’s how to do it in 4 simple steps. How to clear your Snapchat cache for Android:
- Open your Snapchat application. Tap your Bitmoji located in the top left corner.
- Tap the Options wheel in the top right corner. This will open a new page.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page. Under the Account Actions section, tap on Clear Cache
- A confirm message will pop up stating it will not delete or remove any Snapchat memories. Press Continue. And you’re done! You now have a clean cache, and any corrupted data will be gone. How to clear your Snapchat cache for iPhone:
- Open your Snapchat application. Tap your Bitmoji located in the top left corner.
- Tap Options in the top right corner. This will open a new page.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page. Under the Account Actions section, tap on Clear Cache. It should be right under the ‘Account Actions’ label.
- Select which type of cache you want to clear. We recommend pressing ‘Clear All’.
- A confirm message will pop up stating it will not delete or remove any Snapchat memories. Press Continue.
7. Reinstall App
Reinstalling Snapchat is like clearing the cache, but it clears more info than the cache. This still won’t remove any memories saved, or friends added. To reinstall Snapchat on iPhone, go to the homepage. Hard press down on the Snapchat icon until the mini-menu pops up. Press Delete App, then go to the app store. Search ‘Snapchat’ and re-download it. To reinstall Snapchat on Android, go to the Google Play Store and search for Snapchat. Click on the Snapchat icon on the top of the store page, and next to open, press Uninstall. Wait for it to finish uninstalling, then press install again.
8. Restart Your Device
Restarting your device could stop some strange things from happening to your phone and / or Snapchat. This can fix the issue if the problem was with your device’s operating system malfunctioning.
9. Check For Updates
It’s possible your Snapchat version is outdated and causing a discrepancy between the app and your phone storage. If this is the problem, simply updating your app could fix the issue. First, ensure you have at least 1 GB of storage on your device. If you do, then you should be good to go! To update your Snapchat on your iPhone, follow these three easy steps. For iPhone:
- Go to the App Store from your home screen.
- At the bottom of your screen, you should see the tab “Updates”, the second to the last button next to “Search”. If Snapchat is not listed on this page, the app is already up to date.
- If you see the app, it’s ready to be updated. Press “UPDATE” next to the app. If you’ve pressed the update button and you have enough storage, your app should successfully update quickly. For Android:
- Launch the Google Play Store on your Android device. Tap the search box at the top of your screen and type “Snapchat” without quotes.
- Snapchat should show up at the very top. Next to ‘open’ it should say ‘Update’. If it doesn’t, your Snapchat version is already up to date. And that’s it! Your Snapchat is now updated to the current version.
10. Save Snapchat Memories To Camera Roll
If your Snapchat camera roll is now showing up once again, you can now save them to your phone’s gallery. This could serve as a backup; in case the issue happens again, you’ll have all your saved photos in videos from Snapchat stored on your phone. To do this, you need to go to each individual photo or video you’d like to save. Press on the intended photo or video and tap the three vertical dots, or hard press down until the context menu comes up. Press ‘Save to Camera Roll,’ and you’re all set!
How to Give Snapchat Access to Your Camera Roll
Once you’ve given Snapchat permission to view your camera roll, you can go to your gallery and choose an image you’d want to publish to your Snapchat account. You can find the photo directly below the camera option on the toolbar. You could come upon a photo that has been saved in your gallery. Once you’ve located the image you want to use, click on the “upload” button. That’s all there is to it! Snapchat will instantly submit your photo to their servers. If you wish to make changes to your Snapchat photo, you may select it and click on the edit button.
You may not see an option for the camera to give Snapchat access or you may not know how to allow access to the camera app at all. iPhone: To check if the camera option is available: If it’s an option, toggle it on. If it’s not, go to the next step To give Snapchat camera access:
Can’t Allow Snapchat to Access Camera?
If you’ve given Snapchat access in settings, but it keeps saying ‘Snapchat is a camera app! to continue, you’ll need to enable camera access in settings‘ in Snapchat, then there’s a system failure that’s being caused by you having low storage space. Fixing the Oops Snapchat is a camera app notification that just requires you to get rid of the error that isn’t allowing Snapchat to recognize that you’ve given it access to your camera.
Remove the App Limit to Allow Snapchat to Access Camera
On your iPhone, you’re allowed to have app limits and this will restrict your usage times for apps. If you have an app limited for Snapchat, you might experience problems with Snapchat if you’ve gone past your app usage limit for that day. To fix the Snapchat is a Camera app glitch, you’ll need to get rid of the app usage limit.
